Namsoc Constitution

This is the consitution for the Nottingham Anime and Manga Society, and establishes the rules and principles that the society is based on.  It is valid from the 14th December 2008 onwards.

Aims of the Society

  1. To show anime to members of the society on a regular basis. 
  2. To provide a library members can borrow from. 
  3. To promote anime and manga.
  4. To promote relations with other clubs around the country.
  5. To place anime and manga in a wider social context.
  6. To expand the society.

The Committee

The committee consists of:

  • President: The role of the president is to guide meetings, allocate tasks, and ensure that all are doing their specified work. The president is also responsible for all societal activities.
  • Treasurer: The treasurer is responsible for all the financial transactions of the society, 
    and holds its assets in trust. In the president's absence the treasurer carries out the  president's duties.
  • Secretary: The secretary handles internal correspondence, keeps up to date lists of members, and schedules and minutes meetings. If the president and treasurer are absent the secretary carries out the president's duties.
  • Librarian: The librarian organises the storage and lending to members of the society's  loanable items.
  • Webmaster: The webmaster is responsible for maintaining the society's website.
  • Communications Officer: The role of the communications officer is to keep members informed about upcoming society events and activities, and to promote awareness of the society.
  • Operations Officer: The operations officer is responsible for technical aspects of society  events.
  • Events Officer: The events officer is responsible for planning events for the society.

Any committee member can be removed from his or her position by a two-thirds majority in a committee meeting.

Non Committee Officers

Non committee officers (NCOs) are appointed by the committee to assist the committee.  They are officers of the society but are not entitled to vote in committee meetings.

Elections

The committee is elected annually at the Annual General Meeting using an instant runoff single transferable vote.

All members are entitled to vote. 

Any candidate who stands for a committee position must be a member of the society and have two members to propose and second him or her.

Quorum

The quorum for a committee meeting is half the committee including at least one out of the president, the treasurer, and the secretary.

Amendments to the Constitution

Any changes to the constitution must be approved by a two-thirds majority in a committee meeting.

Other Business

Other business needs a majority vote in a committee meeting to be approved.  Only committee members are entitled to vote.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone aged 16 or over.
