While I'm sure a committee member will be along shortly to give a more complete answer, I will take a stab at answering you, Iduno.

Series selection is a lengthy and much debated part of committee meetings, and we spend a lot of effort trying to get a poll balanced, not just within itself, but also with the other series on at the same time. Things get ommited from polls for any number of reasons: length, tone, the fear of unbalancing a poll by having too many similar animes, if none of us have seen it, and of course, the reception of recent animes. With respects to Champloo, if memory serves, it just didn't make the cut. There's little similarity between it and Ruroni Kenshin, so any perceived issue on Kenchin wouldn't effect Clampoo. They are two very different shows. As for Nadesico, I love it, but we have had it on before, twice. The bad reception of Yamato wouldn't have applied, as again, they are two very different shows. Also we just had a poll not too long ago with Irresponsible Captain Tyler, another space comedy, and that didn't do too well.

Er, Mr President, Madam Secretary? Does that cover it?

Pretty much. We do take into account suggestions that people make on the forums, if you don't see what you suggested straight away it can be down to a number of reasons. We may choose to leave a series out of a poll because we've seen too much of a certain genre at namsoc which can be quite unfair to those people who don't like it, I.e, who wants to see 3 lots of anime set in a school or college, or 3 lots of anime containing sci fi or chicks with guns, or senseless death. We also may leave an anime out if we have seen a similar anime in the same slot to be fairer to the members of namsoc with different tastes. It is also normal practice for the series' played in the s1 and s2 slots to be 26 episode series where as some anime can get into the 40s or 50s, the reason for this is people eventually get sick of the series- which is a shame for good series like blood+- the only exception I recall was for You're Under Arrest in which the majority of members chose to carry on the series after the 26th episode- not that there was a plot to follow or anything. We may also choose to leave a series for the next slot poll as it would have a better chance of performing better in the poll than in this months. Also the committee members are all individuals with their own backgrounds and preferences in anime, and debates on polls can go on for a while- as a matter of fact it can end up taking up most of the time, because there are so many suggestions. Obviously it is gonna be alot harder for series to get in the poll if only one person suggests it, if several people suggest it, it would therefore be easier to allow it straight on to the poll.
Finally I would like to point out that if you feel it is unlikely that the anime you want on a poll will be discussed and backed then please feel free to come to a committee meeting and be part of the discussion, these meetings are open to members as well as helpers and committee.

That's about as complete as I can get it Rich.

We should advertise when the meetings are, but presumably the upcoming one is a bit more of a handover then a meeting?

I certainly concur on Angel Beats, I wrote up a pretty random glowing review for myself in spite of many aspects being pretty forgettable, I misremembered and thought I saw it on a poll but that was Baka To Test, oops, I should have suggested it.

There is also a special episode (fitting in just about 1/3rd of the way in) which is fun, you should find it Washu (there is also an additional bit of epilogue too somewhere, PM me if you want a few links, heh.

I'm not sure this thread is the place to answer point 1. It's not a handover, it's a 'right people not having the right key' thing so that's only going to take 5 minutes, I also want an exchange of contact details so there are no excuses for not being able to communicate. We have really important things to dicuss this week particularly regarding the regional social.
Once again, any member is welcome to attend which, I do think it is somthing that should be explicit on one of the web pages along with the date of the next committee meeting- that's enough advertising. Also the members know when a meeting is going to happen in the near future because we announce the closure of the motivational poster competition the tuesday before the meeting so there's nothing to stop them from asking us the details. I must stress that committee meetings aren't a 2 hour chat and banter at a pub thing, we need to ensure these meetings continue to be productive and I'm not afraid to point those that can't be productive in the direction of the door.

When it comes to reviews, I just don't read them, especially when I've already seen an anime- at that point the only opinion that matters is my own. When choosing anime I don't read detailed reviews- that's taking it too seriously- I'd rather just relax and read a brief outline of what it's about, because that way I'm more likely to have a peak at the anime. I don't want other people telling me whether characters are likeable or about the quality of the animation, it's something I'd like to discover for myself.

And I also wouldnt mind watching Nadesico but it has been on at NAMSoc before [before my time, that is]- I think a marathon might be in order there. Or then again could we get away with showing it at Namsoc considering we have different members from back then? Doubt anyone would agree with me there- maybe I'll leave it a couple more years.

I wouldn't mind seeing another cop show but I don't think we've finished digesting you're under arrest yet. big gah. But an awesome compromise would be stand alone complex- a truly awesome soundtrack, yoko kanno can really put your heart in an anime. Oh hell, has yoko kanno ever composed for a bad anime?
I think I'm just not getting my fix of science fiction, action and drama anymore. *cry*

It's nice to know there are more Angel Beats fans here than 'Angel Bashers'.

Here are a few more I have seen that I am sure many will enjoy.

Sora no Otoshimono
Synopsis (Provided by myanimelist.net)
Sakurai Tomoki has been having the same strange dream since he was a child and would wake up in tears. Sugata, an upperclassmen at his school, believes the dream to be of the new continent. Later that night, while waiting under the cherry trees for Sugata and his childhood friend, Sohara, an angel comes flying down and his peaceful life changes from then on.

This is an amazing series that is funny and should be enjoyable for most. Some may consider some of it to be too much into Fan Service but in my opinion it works well in this anime overall.

To Aru Majutsu no Index
Synopsis (Provided by myanimelist.net)
Set in a city of scientifically advanced superhuman students, but in a world where magic is also real. Touma Kamijou’s right hand, the Imagine Breaker, will negate all magic, psychic, or divine powers, but not his own bad luck. One day he finds a young girl hanging on his balcony railing. She turns out to be a nun from the Church of England, and her mind has been implanted with the Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum - all the magical texts the Church has removed from circulation.

This is a cool anime which has a lot of funny scenes which should be fun for nearly all of NAMsoc.

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
Synopsis (Provided by myanimelist.net)
Academy City. 2.3 million inhabitants. 80% of the students are active in the "Brain Development Program", a.k.a. espers, and out of those only 7 are Level 5s.

Meet the civilian protagonist Mikoto and her friend Kuroko, maintainers of peace and order in the university district. Kuroko is a member of "Judgement", while Mikoto happens to be one of the lucky seven.

This is the side story for To Aru Majutsu no Index and is very funny. A good watch.

Fairy Tail
Synopsis (Provided by myanimelist.net)
Lucy is a 17-year-old girl who wants to be a full-fledged mage. One day, when visiting Harujion Town, she meets Natsu, a young man who gets sick easily by any type of transportation. But Natsu isnt just any ordinary kid, he's a member of one of the world's most (in)famous mage guilds: Fairy Tail.

Fairy Tail is a cool anime that is rather like Slayers. It should prove to be very funny and those who enjoyed Slayers should enjoy this one.

Deadman Wonderland
Episodes: 12 (+OVA coming out in October)
Genres: Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

A massive earthquake ravaged Japan's mainland and destroyed most of Tokyo, sinking three-quarters of it into the ocean. Ten years later, the story starts with Igarashi Ganta, a seemingly ordinary, unassuming middle school student attending Nagano Prefecture's middle school. An escapee, a survivor of the great earthquake, Ganta has no memories of the tragedy and has lived a simple, normal life. This all changes one day when a strange man covered in blood and crimson armour appears, floating, out of his classroom windows. Smirking madly, this Red Man massacres Ganta's entire class and, instead of killing him, embeds a red crystal shard in his chest. Within days of the massacre, Ganta is declared the sole suspect and, following a suspiciously quick trial, is sentenced to life imprisonment in Deadman Wonderland, a massive theme-park-like prison.

EDIT
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Episodes: 12 (season 1)
Genres: Comedy, Parody, School

Itoshiki Nozomu is always in despair! Even simple things like paying for the toll on the subway can send him to a despair so deep only attempted suicide is the answer. How Strange is it then, that he should be the teacher of a High School Class filled with students with even more emotional problems than his. This great Comedy will leave you in anything but 'Despair' as you meet each of his students and watch their wacky adventures.

Not an anime in itself, but I would like to suggest a screensaver for the computer we show anime on, doesn't matter what it is, just something to stop the screen burn in on the projector from a static image being left there too long.

Blue exorcist
Episodes: 25
Genres: Action, Supernatural, Comedy

The story revolves around Rin Okumura, a teenager possessing abnormal strength and endurance who, along with his younger twin brother Yukio, was raised by Father Shiro Fujimoto. Soon after Yukio departs to study at the prestigious True Cross Academy, Rin learns that he is the son of Satan, the strongest of all demons. Witnessing Shiro dying to protect him, Rin ends up doing what his guardian asked him never to do: draw the demon-slaying blade Kurikara, which restrains his demonic powers, from its scabbard. From that moment on, Rin not only gains permanent demonic features like fangs, pointed ears and a tail, but also the power to ignite himself into blue flames that can destroy anything they touch.
At Shiro's funeral, Rin has an encounter with Mephisto Pheles, who agrees with Rin's wish to become an Exorcist like his guardian to take revenge on Satan. Rin enrolls at the True Cross Academy, which is actually the Japanese branch of an international organization dedicated to protect the human realm, Assiah, from demons and other creatures from the demon realm, Gehenna. Rin takes part in a special Exorcist course, the existence of which is known only by a few. Much to his surprise, he finds that his brother Yukio is already a veteran Exorcist and will be one of his teachers.
