Another Suggestion:

Negima:

10-year old Negi Springfield is a wizard-in-training, and needs only to pass one more test in order to become a Master Wizard. Unfortunately, his final task is a bizarre one - to become a English teacher at an all-females boarding school. As soon as he arrives, he completely embarasses one of his students, Asuna Kagurazaka, and replaces the teacher she loves, which garners her hatred. To make matters worse, Asuna learns that Negi is a wizard, and promises to tell unless he helps her out. But, unfortunately, circumstances force them to work together to do many things, from fighting evil wizards to helping the class pass their final exam, with a lot of humor, magic, and romances thrown in.

There is a couple of versions of this anime, so it would be the original I recommend. Its extremely funny, and from the Manga viewpoint this is just full of laughs.

I am viewing a couple of other anime to see if I can recommend others.

Trigun or Gungrave. Both are excellent shows.

Or for something less action-orientated, Great Teacher Onizuka.

Whoever you are, yes, Akagi sounds silly but fun: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Akagi

Also; all can come play some Mahjong, the simple rules are dead simple! (also I've got them wrong but who cares it's still fun! )

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu
Episodes: 13 (season 2 confirmed)
Genres: Comedy, School, Super Power
The story centers around Akihisa Yoshii, the "baka" of the title. His academy rigidly divides up the student body into classes based on the results of tests. The prodigies are in the A class with reclining seats complete with air conditioning, but Akihisa is in F class, the lowest rung of the school ladder which is furnished only with low, decrepit tables and worn-out straw tatami mats.

The school happens to have developed experiments to summon fantasy creatures, and Akihisa decides to rally F class to take on the higher-tiered classes and seize their perks. The F class uses the summoned creatures in an all-out battle for school supremacy.

Haibane Renmei
Episodes: 13
Genres: Drama, Fantasy, Slice of Life
A dream of falling from the sky...and then birth. Rakka is born from a large cocoon into the Old Home, greeted by a group of females with small wings on their backs and shining halos above their heads. Soon Rakka’s own wings grow, a halo is placed on her head and she is told that she must work in the nearby town of Grie. She soon realizes that the town and the entire world they live in are confined behind the Wall, a tall, impenetrable wall that none except the mysterious Toga are allowed to exit.

Ranma 1/2
Episodes: 161 (18 for season 1)
Genres: Comedy, Martial Arts, Slice of Life
Ranma Saotome and his father, Genma, show up at the Tendou dojo after a journey to China. There, the two had fallen into cursed springs. Whatever died in those springs is what Ranma and Genma will turn into. Ranma turns into a girl while his father becomes a panda. However the transition only takes place if they come in contact with cold water. And hot water reverses it. But that is only one of Ranma`s many problems. His father and Mr. Tendou make a deal that has Ranma and Akane, Mr. Tendo`s youngest daughter, both get married so they can take over the family dojo. Until then, they remain engaged and unhappy.

I can definately get behind the Baka Test suggestion, the first 2 episodes are a bit iffy if I remember right but the rest are pure gold.

Also reccomending Seitokai no Itchizon, it's a 13 episode comedy that parodys plenty of well known series.
