Suggestions for anime showings in the future 2 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 1
I have looked over some anime, that I think are suitable for showing.
I am aware that some of these may have been shown before. But as I have not been here since the starting of NAMsoc, I will post them, and you can comment to these, and maybe even suggest your own.

Mai-HiME:
Synopsis:
Thirteen girls, each with the ability to materialize "Elements" and summon metallic guardians called "Childs" have been brought to Fuuka Academy to battle mysterious creatures called Orphans. Each with a different personality and background, they must decide who they truly care about and why they fight.

I believe you have shown this one, so not much may be needed to be done with this one.

Mai-Otome:
Synopsis
Arika Yumemiya has traveled far in search of her goal: the prestigious Gualderobe Academy. This is the school where young girls are trained to become Otomes, protectors of royal leaders throughout the lands. Here, Arika makes plenty of friends, but some enemies know something about her past that she does not. Nevertheless, her spirit and determination will keep pushing her forward. --- Adapted from its predecessor, Mai-HiME, this series is not a direct sequel, but an alternate universe setting featuring some of the Mai-HiME cast (though with different personalities).

This is one I believe hasn't been shown, when I was talking to some members yestoday. So this one which is more than suitable, and it has some very funny and entertaining scenes, with a lot of humour.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood:
Synopsis:
In this world, there exist people with special abilities to manipulate objects and transform one object into another. These people are known as alchemists. This process does come with a cost though, the basic law of alchemy states that in order to gain something you have to sacrifice something of the same value.

The main character is the famous alchemist Edward Elric - also known as the Fullmetal Alchemist - who almost lost his little brother, Alphonse, in an accident. Edward managed to contain his brother's soul in a large suit of armor. While he did manage to save his brother's life, he had to pay a great price himself.

To get back what they've lost, the brothers embark on a journey to find the Philosophers Stone that is said to amplify the powers of an alchemist enormously.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a re-telling of the story from the manga point of view

This I feel is one that a fair few will like, but also will have a few haters (You can't cater for everyone). But it allows for some great laughs, and some cool scenes. I am sure many people would like to see it, however the season isn't finished yet, but has over 26 episodes already out. I think they are going for the same number as the previous FMA of 51(ish).

Disgaea:
Synopsis:
A comedy between demons and angels, with a little side of human. The main character is a demon boy that has been "asleep" for two years. He is awakened by an angel girl, who is sent to assassinate the demon boy's father. The series goes on to explain the awkward and comical friendship between a demon and an angel. Based on the popular strategy-tactics game.

We recently watched an episode or 2 during a random showing night. I think this is a brilliant short series, and definately worth watching, while making everyone laugh in the process. With only 12 episodes it will be over fast,so its most likely suitable to the last slot for showing.

Desert Punk:
Synopsis:
In the future, Japan is a wasteland. In the Great Kantou Desert, scattered humans eke out a living in the hot sand. Among them, a short-statured man they call "Sunabouzu" makes a living as a bounty hunter. Like a demon of the sand, he seems unbeatable. Yet, like all men, he has a particular weakness for the opposite sex...

We also saw an episode or 2 of this during a random showing night, I am uncertain as to wether or not people have seen all the episodes. But it is a very funny series, that I am sure will provide barrels of laughs. (Especially in the English dub)

Slayers NEXT:
Synopsis:
Lina, Gourry, Zelgadis, and Amelia coincidently meet up again and begin to search for the Clair Bible. During their search they run into a mysterious priest named Xelloss who seems to know a thing or two about the passages they're looking for, but he tends to get them into more trouble instead of out of it. Furthermore, they discover that the Monster race has plans of their own, and as it turns out, Lina and Company just might be a big part of their evil intentions.

Having watched the first season not so long back at NAMsoc, this would be a good one to view as many people enjoyed (as far as I could see) watching the original season. This is filled with so much comedy and entertainment, I am sure many people would love to watch it.

There is meant to be a sunday AGM meeting in November - might be worth bringing a list of suggestions there. I've only got one suggestion really, apart from the second season of Haruhi Suzumiya (or both the first and second in order?), is The Daughter of Twenty Faces, which was pretty good action/thievery stuff and that most people would enjoy I'm sure.

Desert Punk was weird and quite fun, I really need to watch that, hehe not too fussed on your descriptions of the other series' though.

Thanks for the suggestions, it's useful to know what people want to see. We'll discuss them when we come up with the shortlist for the next poll.

I think I see a theme to your suggestions, "Ah, Kampfer. The Anime with big-breasted girls fighting for no reason." - if fanservice is your thing then fair enough, but seriously it needs more then that doesn't it?

I still stand by The Daughter of Twenty Faces. Is there any chance of suggesting these at a more opportune time, or providing a copy of the subbed episodes? (It's not out on DVD AFAIK).

Aren't the Mai Hime things meant to be really ecchi? Doesn't sound good for a mixed group imo.

Also there was a Disgea anime? I'm sure that doesn't exist and that if it existed it wouldn't totaly butcher the game's story, even going so far as to introduce mid/end game characters in the 1st half of the 1st episode.

FMA Brotherhood is pretty good, but since it's still ongoing won't everyone who is interested in it already be watching it anyway?

Don't know much about Kampfer but it got slated a lot over at the SRK anime thread.

If I was going to make a suggestion I would say maybe;

Darker then Black series 1;
Not sure wether it's categorised as shounen or seinin but it's a decent episodic anime with an underlying plot, guess the episodicness (if that isn't a word yet it is now) may put some people off so it's a less then ideal suggestion.

Welcome to the NHK;
Good comedy but we got at least 10 weeks until the comedy slot is back and I have a suspicion that it may have already been run.

Full Metal Panic;
Think this would be a good all rounder, doesn't seem to stick out as excelling anywhere but it's just a solid anime all round.

Suzumiya S2;
Provided that only the 1st and last episodes of endless 8 are shown.

Now a few ones that I think will probably have been shown but may not have;
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Utawarumono
Tengen Toppa Gurren Laghan
Samurai Champloo

I would also mention Baccano but seeing as of how people couldn't handle Higurashi maybe that's not such a good idea.

Without giving any details away, everyone's series suggestions were taken into account in tonight's committee meeting. We're happy to say that some have indeed made it through to the poll's for series 1 and 3. Please continue with your suggestions!

Andrew:
I think I see a theme to your suggestions, "Ah, Kampfer. The Anime with big-breasted girls fighting for no reason." - if fanservice is your thing then fair enough, but seriously it needs more then that doesn't it?

That's hardly fair at all. Full Metal Alchemist, Disgaea, Slayers Next... where's the fanservice? I can only account fully for Slayers, but I'd bet the amount of fanservice in these 3 is below average at best.

I used to think fanservice was all you need. As such, I'm almost completely desensitized to it. It's only because I broadened my horizons, that I watch and enjoy more diverse things now.

May I also point out that the same reviewer you quoted complained about Kampfer having no story, but gave the story a good 7/10. I'll leave the reasoning for that to be explained by you. Also, 33/50 found the review helpful. Who are these 33? Why haven't they thrown themselves off a bridge yet? Considering this, they're obviously stupid enough to do it. Of course, I'm being rhetorical and ever so slightly sarcastic, but my point is, don't take reviewers so seriously. Something I've always stood by, is trying something yourself, and ignoring what others think of it, and believe me, I've only ever bought 2 anime I didn't like, and 2/300+ bought purely on gut instinct isn't a bad track record at all!

Kampfer was taken seriously in our decision process, but whether or not it made it through to the series 3 poll, you'll have to wait until the end of Spice and Wolf to see!

Must be off. Bonjour!

Re:Suggestions for anime showings in the future 2 Years ago Karma: -21
I was only pointing out that example, I didn't comment on the others. It appeared, though, it was a series built on just fanservice - something a bit thin I think, all things considered, compared to the wealth of other good options suggested.

I only quoted the first review for that bit of fact - I could just have quoted any of the other reviews. I didn't even bother to read the whole review - I just went through the briefs of all of them. Saves time, considering. No, I also don't trust the ratings, I wasn't looking for ratings though!

Of course, no one here has denied it is just a fanservice show, so I don't see a problem with saying there needs to be more then just fanservice to make it worthwhile to watch here This is my opinion, sorry if it's unliked, can't do much about that!

Re:Suggestions for anime showings in the future 2 Years ago Karma: 9
Yes, that's fine. Your opinion is valid. I think you'll find that it was never disputed. However, if you don't like the amount of tact I showed you, then please don't be disrespectful to others and their suggestions! After years of watching it happen at the club, and indeed on the global scale of the internet, seeing an anime get slammed by someone makes others not want to watch it. After all, this is the whole reason we don't have series polls on the forum. There was too much tactical voting between the members, as they all had too much time to research other fan's biased, opinionated reviews, and we ended up with some very bad selections because of it.

Point 3 of our club's constitution says that we should promote anime and manga. If we ourselves are giving it a bad name, then we only have ourselves to blame for any consequences. Next time, please give a series it's fair trial (by actually watching it) before criticising it! Your whole argument for not watching it was based soley on the review, so that's why I decided to point out that you were wrong to do so. Also, I think you'll find the reason no one denied it is just a fanservice show, is because it only finished airing in December. Not that many of us are so up to date with the Japanese releases. That hardly means it's not valid for suggestion, and that fffreak9999 was wrong to do so, does it?
