Just a simple bit of fact-finding: Do they have special one-off episodes anyone can watch? (As far as I know, they're serials). Big problem if not...kinda hard to show anything of a series and enjoy it. I'd certainly be scratching my head, since I'd be lost
Not that I'd mind it...just probably wouldn't understand any of it, and don't watch either series myself.
At least you didn't say "Which is better?" hehehe

Well the thing is anyone who wants to watch bleach is probably already watching it by now and although there are 1 offs the series is far too long for catching up on it to be anything but a chore and the one offs are just filler.

From the official committee perspective, we have discussed showing Bleach in part. It's obviously way too long for our club to put on as a whole, as it would take 5-6 years (no exaggeration) to catch up to it's current point, then we'd have to catch up again. The only way we can put it on, is to only show the first story arc. Then we have to consider the length of the arc, and how it would fit into our current schedule regulations. At 20 episodes, it's too short for the two longer series slots, but too long for the shorter one. We'd have to find something to fill the gaps, which is another problem we can do without.
Generally, it's not an ideal choice for suggestion, but we have, and will continue to find some way to justify putting it on at some point, because it's popularity speaks for itself.
Until then, you can always try winning 'Namsoc for the night' when we have our prize draw, so you can put as much on as you want for one evening.
From my own personal perspective (which is not related to the Namsoc committee's views in any way), I am an anti-fan of overly bloated sized anime series'. I treat them the same as chewing gum on the side of the road, and certainly don't like watching people jumping up and down, and raving about them at conventions (it's an eyesore, and extremely inconsiderate, believe me, and has been a major contributing factor in the downward spiral of UK anime conventions since 2004/2005). As an avid buyer of anime DVD's, I find it pointless even attempting to keep up with a series of such length, when there are things out there that hold a much higher overall quality for a 26 episode period than the likes of them. Give me any series by Kyoto Animation, or Shaft over one of these any day of the week.
Respect where it's due, though. To keep going for such a length of time is admirable. I just don't see the point in making something that long, drawn out, and chock full of filler episodes. If I wanted to watch something like that, I'd watch a British soap. At least their stories continually progress.
For me, the sooner they all die off, the better - for the entire 'actual' anime community.

The soap analogy is probably the most apt for sure - they're sure popular, with long running stories and a large cast, but they're a pain to ever get into and needs a lot of time investment for relatively low quality programs - meaning usually you like the characters more then any kind of plot arcs.
Also like soaps, they're so well known that no one ever will say "Hey, you want to watch/borrow/see the last year of Eastenders?" when suggesting something, or recommending something to someone - it's a given they know about it and will watch it or not if they want to
(At least, no one has ever said that to me, hehe).

Just to add my metaphorical 2 cents to this thread, I'd like to say I rather liked Bleach. The first soul society arc was pretty awesome, and I suggesting showing part of the series at the club. However, like just about any other Shonen series, they messed it up. I wanted the series to end with Ichigo and Rukia riding off into the sunset, but no, they had start the whole Aizen plot, and promptly sweep that implied romance under the carpet, spoiling what came before. The followed filler arc after filler arc. The truth is Bleach, Naruto, and arguably One Peice, are popular, but disposable entertainment. There's nothing wrong with that at all, I want to stress this, some of my favourite anime moments spring from a overlong martial arts series like Dragonball. Ultimately though, in my opinon anyway, the club isn't for stuff like that. If everybody is already watching it, why put it on at the club? Why not put something on you haven't seen before?

I could never understand the love for these two series, I just don't see the appeal in them whatsoever.
Now One Piece on the other hand, is amazing.
