What are you watching? (Anime Thread) 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 8
Anime at Namsoc, obviously

Would be nice to think some of you watch stuff outside of namsoc though!
This thread is a place to make passing comment on anything your watching anime wise at the mo, just in hopes someone else out there is watching it too.

Those of you who have been around anime forums a bit know this type of thread is bread and butter for any forum, so hopefully will get some of you out there talking again

You know, I must be getting old, I just can't seem to keep up with all the current series at the moment, well, either that or I blame the newly bought games consoles

Anyways, to start off, what am I keeping tabs on at the mo.

Toradora! Toradora! Toradora!

Yup, it's a high school comedy, but damn is it good. There's just something about the characters that draws you in and keeps you watching. 18 odd eps in and still looking forward to every new ep. We're also watching it at EMAG

Clannad After Story

You'll need to watch the first series of Clannad before watching this one, plus it'll help if you like Key adaptations
For those of you who are watching it, I'll say two things, ep 16, and Ushio.
For those of you who haven't seen it, this series is managing to be one of the emotionally moving series I've probably ever seen in my life. If ep 16 doesn't kill you, you're probably already dead.

Lunch break over, more later

heh, we watched that at the soc a bit over a year ago Definately a favourite with everyone, possibly only topped by Black Lagoon.
First half of the series was excellent; Light vs L made for an incredible psychological thriller, but after that certain insident about half way, well, for me it never really recovered. Still, good series, just got the last of the R1 collector editions through the door this morning in fact

Gah! Had you not seen it before Squall!? *slap*
Excellent series, one of the first I watched on subs when coming to namsoc.
Really need to rewatch it after getting the ADV thinpak, and figure out where to stick the OVA ep

Right, couple more for ya's

First up, Rideback

To quote ANN: In a future world where an organization called the GGP has taken control of the world, Rin Ogata was a promising up-and-coming ballet dancer, but suffered a serious injury and decided to quit. Years later in college she comes across a club building and soon finds herself intrigued by a transforming motorcycle like vehicle called a Rideback. She soon finds that her unique ballet skills with balance and finesse make her a born natural on a Rideback.

Ooh, it's a mecha motorbike show with a ballerina in it. Oohkey...
Surprisingly, it's very good. Reminds me a bit of Flag vaguely, except not boring
I'm only up to ep 3 so far, so it's still Rin getting used to the Rideback, but there's a hint of military activity in the background, which will hopefully mean this'll start adding up to some rather interesting and probably quite thought provoking action.
Animation quality is top notch, with nice CG on the bikes. OP track is by Mell (Black Lagoon op fame), and the ED track is an absolutely amazing track that contrasts so well with the OP. Get the feeling that contrast is a major feature of the show somehow.

next up Maria Holic

ANN again: The story centers on a sophomore named Kanako who enrolls in all-girls school because she has a phobia of men and wants to find her destined yuri partner. She meets a captivating freshman named Mariya who fits her criteria — except her seemingly ideal mate happens to be a cross-dressing sadistic boy.

Yes, it's a Trap! A damn cute trap at that too

Aah, the latest outing from Shaft and Shinbo (ala Moon Phase, Pani Poni Dash, Negima!?, Zetsubou Sensei, etc) . I'm in heaven
OK, you have to like Shaft's artistic styles to really like their stuff, but it's guaranteed animation eye candy and almost always a laugh a minute. And terminally insane. OP track No ED on the tube unfortunately, which is a shame (tis a Media Factory anime), cause it's great!

Couple more; finally getting round to watching Midori Days which I picked up a couple of years ago
I'm sure Richard has a few things to say about that series *smirk* I'm enjoying it so far though

Another series I've gotten round to watching (still way too many DVD's to watch) is Piano.
A surprising little gem for me this one, the story revolves around Miu Nomura, a 14 yr old girl who has been studying piano most of her life. She's a quiet unassuming girl who begins to feel the weight of her life as she loses track of just why she plays the piano, something which has driven most of her life.
Add on top the worries of her energetic best friends romantic troubles, along with her own budding feelings for a boy she watches from afar, and you begin to get one of those heart-warming stories that while never reaching the heights of action or gripping drama instead set themselves a steady nostalgic pace that lets you wander unhurried through the pleasant days of an adorable teenage girls life.
I'm sure its the kind of thing that will bore most of you to tears, but for me it's pure slice-of-life bliss that can't help but bring a gentle smile to my face. Very reminiscent of Someday Dreamers, another of my favourites, so if you a fan of its ilk I recommend giving this one a try.
