Let's try this again

This thread is for discussion of the series "Last Exile". Please post comments, worksafe images and general triva. For those who have seen the series before, please refrain from posting spoilers until the relevant episode has been shown; we don't want to spoil it for the others now do we?

To get you started, here's some trivia. Mecha oldhand Makoto Kobayashi was responsible for concept designs of the vanships, and the rather cool Silvana. More of his work can be found here.

(Not going to double post in the other thread - but yeah, better choice I think? Still has flying battleships anyway)

Looks brilliant even if I do question the military tactics used in the first few episodes (and the use of small children to deliver messages by planes, huh?! ). Although having a floating referee and limited casualties I guess counts for something, if not apart from them being total gits saying "Oh, no, surprise attack A-Okay by us!".

I liked the bored captain of "Ubermegaship100000" which can destroy entire fleets by itself, hehehe

Certainly very steampunk 1.5 I like the skylines, the clouds look so fluffy! Hopefully it'll stick to a lot of flying around.

Gonna go a bit "Armchair Strategist" for a moment. Yeah, the military tactics are a bit dubious, I'd go so far as to say ritualised and horrific. What was the point of the musketmen? Tragic waste of life. The actual naval tactics weren't as bad, but both sides assumed the rules of engagement would be followed. Hence "Ubermegaship100000" doing so well. The captain of the Silvana really doesn't care for such things (as to why, that's a spoiler). Its not so much that its uber per say (though it is undoubtably is a bit). Its just that ship had better leadership; appearing in the rear of an enemy, which had all of its guns pointing completely facing the other way. Since the Disith battleships seem to postion their gun turrets to focus below and to the front, they were in trouble once the Silvana got in close and started blasting with both broadsides.

Heh, an anime battle that can be justified with real world logic, don't get that very often.

I don't think that quite justifies it, I mean, it appears it's very plot device when a ship bothers to actually take down another ship (they seem so flimsy too, heh), it's more just uber for the sake of plot, heh. Also any form of cannon warfare never had this kind of close-range action, where point blank firing would take down entire fleets...military tactics so far have been non-existent to fantastical, but I expected nothing less

It's also like they wanted a cool land battle with troops but didn't want to do it, well, on land! Ah well

Hopefully it'll get better. Those kind of explosives (for whatever reason...) they have are fine at long range (ie; the prologue part of episode 1), I hope it's a little less "line up and shoot at each other" and more badass "run in and shoot shit up because that wins" attitudes

One other thing, a little (nay, a lot) nitpicky but I'm also fascinated by how they think that because water is clear it's safe to drink. From guys who boil their water normally. Kinda insane if a lead character gets sick because he drinks water from a random source without boiling it first
