As your brand new neighbour [s]Spiderman[/s] Events Officer, my role means bringing more to the NAMSoc people in terms of fun, socializing, adventure and most importantly, the oppotunity to escape work or studies, even if it's only for a few hours.
Now, one of the ideas I've had is that of "Online Socials". The idea would be for people to meet up in games online and have a group session together every now and then. This is made possible via the online game distribution service, Steam.
Online Socials would be set up ahead of time. Whiles I'm trying for 2 months notice with monthly events, these might come up within a shorter time frame. When announced, a date will be set as well as a time, what game etc. In order to get more people involved, I'll be trying to set them up on popular/free games through Steam, thus giving more people a chance at joining in.
Events would require a Steam account to join in and possibly a microphone for added lolz. The Steam platform and Account creation (free) can be done at
www.steampowered.com.
My initial plan is to have a NAMSoc event on "Team Fortress 2", a popular class based shooter with a long range of personality, in-jokes, humour and of course, many, many hats. The best part is: It's free to play. Forever. A server would be set up ahead of time and tested before games were to go ahead. Veterans, newbies and the "Poor and Irish" are welcome, as it's not supposed to be serious. Thus, the perfect game for it (being that you throw jars of urine, slap people with fish and wear bright pink top hats).
Would anyone be up for something like this every now and then? Let me hear you speak.
